Why Singapore Has My Heart

As mentioned in my last post, we took a multi-stop trip, courtesy of Qatar Airways, with Singapore as our main destination. We had a two-day stopover in Doha, which definitely helped break up the travel time — a big win if you’re not a fan of long-haul flights!

The flight from Doha to Singapore was around [insert time], which made the journey a lot more bearable. We landed at about 9 PM, and from the moment we touched down, I was in awe. Talk about beauty, greenery, cleanliness — and let’s not forget how super-efficient everything was! From landing to collecting our bags and leaving the airport, the entire process took under 20 minutes. Immigration was a breeze with all-electronic passport gates, touchscreen tablets everywhere, and friendly staff ready to help. Singapore Changi Airport really is in a league of its own.

Transportation: Grab and Go
Getting around Singapore was super easy. I downloaded the Grab app, which is your go-to for transport, food delivery, groceries — you name it. I linked it to my Monzo bank account, and boom, I was good to go.

Taxis are reasonably priced — the Singapore dollar (SGD) is almost 2 to 1 against the GBP, so rides felt very affordable. The MRT train system is also fantastic and much cheaper than taxis, especially for getting into the city from the airport. Although we landed late and opted for a taxi, the train is definitely worth considering if you arrive earlier. Here’s a handy link to the train system

Note: All contactless cards are accepted for public transport, but it’s a cashless system, so plan accordingly!

Accommodation: Sentosa Island & City Living

For our stay, we split our time between two locations — and I’m so glad we did!

First Stop:  Sentosa Island

Sentosa Sensory Scape

Sentosa is a resort island known for its attractions and family-friendly vibes. Think beach clubs, indoor skydiving, and Universal Studios, Palwan Kids City etc — it’s a dream for kids and adults alike. Sentosa has its own toll access, and hotels there tend to be more premium in price… but honestly, worth every penny.

Staying there first gave us a relaxing start to the trip before diving into the busier city life. If you’re travelling with children, Sentosa is a great choice.

Second Stop: Downtown Singapore
For the second leg of our journey, we stayed at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, located in the heart of the city — and it lived up to its name. It felt more geared towards business travellers, but I loved the tech-savvy features:

  • A digital bedside device for alarms, interaction with  reception, and things to do
  • Wireless chargers built into the furniture
  • In-room ordering via the TV

Everything was clean, stylish, and super convenient.

The Weather

We travelled in June, and the average temperature was around 32°C with a mix of sunshine and brief showers. I learned that Singapore has a tropical climate all year round, with average temps hovering around 27–31°C (81–88°F) no matter when you go. So pack light, breathable clothing — and don’t forget an umbrella!

Faith First: A Visit to Joseph Prince’s Church

As a proud Jesus girl, my first stop in Singapore had to be New Creation Church, pastored by Joseph Prince. It was such a beautiful experience — from the warm welcome team to the worship and the Word. If you’re ever in Singapore, I highly recommend attending a service. You’ll leave encouraged and refreshed.

(You can find service details on their Website.)

What We Got Up To: Exploring Singapore

We spent a day at Gardens by the Bay and the surrounding areas. While it wasn’t quite my cup of tea (nature lovers, this might be more your thing), it’s definitely worth seeing at least once. The area is huge, so I recommend renting a bike to make exploring easier. They also have a kids’ splash area and various themed zones.

We also stopped by the Red Dot Design Museum and did a little shopping at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, indulging in delicious local food before calling it a night.

Planned Day Trips That Didn’t Go As Planned

We had ambitious plans to visit Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Johor Bahru (Indonesia) via ferry — but unfortunately, both trips didn’t pan out. Our KL flight was cancelled last minute, and we missed the Johor ferry for other reasons.

Still, if you’re planning your own trip, here are some helpful guides:

Final Thoughts & Why Singapore Has My Heart

Singapore left a lasting impression on me for so many reasons:

  1. Modesty & Style – The average Singaporean is stylish yet modest — and I loved that.
  2. Family Culture – Community is strong. Most restaurants had tables full of generations: parents, grandparents, and children all dining together.
  3. Cleanliness & Order – Everything is clean, tidy, and incredibly organised. It starts from the airport and continues throughout the city.

People often say Singapore is expensive, but I beg to differ. Maybe it’s because I was spending in pounds, but I found things to be reasonably priced — especially for the quality and experience you get.

So yes… Singapore has my heart. I’ll definitely be going back — and next time, I’ll make sure to tick Johor Bahru and KL off my list!
